Micro waterjet cutting technology is in a state of boom globally, as there are several recent machine developments today, but a state of optimization and reliability of the technology has not yet been reached. After seeing this opportunity to pioneer both nationally and internationally, in a new technology within the waterjet and abrasive cut, IAMCUT decided to launch a new line of business called IAM MICRO. To this end, he contacted the American company FLOW, a world leader in sales of waterjet cutting machines for the acquisition of the first machine of these characteristics called Nanojet.
Being an emerging technology, and to acquire knowledge about it, with the close collaboration of the TECNALIA research center, IAM CUT decided to enter the project called MicroCut, in order to investigate about the micro water jet cutting and be a pioneer in its activity.
This project responds to a real market demand, having received IAM CUT requests for offers of large batches of parts that it has not been able to respond in the past because it lacks such precise technology. Therefore, he proceeded to carry out an in-depth study of the process of the micro water jet cutting, with regard to the characterization and monitoring of process parameters, study of complements of the machine (such as tools, abrasive feeding systems, or other elements that guarantee the stability of the process), integration of a dimensional measurement system for the validation of parts, etc. On the other hand, and with the aim of establishing and applying all the knowledge acquired during the project, Data Analytics techniques have been used to correlate process parameters and results obtained, so that once the project is finished, the correct parameters of the microcut process can be automatically selected for all types of cases.
In this way, the result of the project has been the implementation of a technology of micro water jet cutting and abrasive capable of cutting parts of very demanding dimensional tolerances, of all types of materials, with a high productivity, a minimum rate of rejections and a high repeatability for large batches of parts.
